While a new demonstration against “mega-basins” is planned for this Saturday in Sainte-Soline (Deux-Sèvres), the Minister of Agriculture Marc Fesneau wishes to launch on France Inter a “message of responsibility and appeasement” in the direction of the demonstrators. The Minister recalls that the prefecture has “ban demonstrations“for fear of violent acts. Marc Fesneau thus highlights the weapons seized before the rally, evoking “machetes and axes“.

Given that the authorities expect the arrival of nearly 1,000 “ultras” in Deux-Sèvres, the Minister of Agriculture considers that there is “risks to public order justifying the ban on demonstrations” and the “ggreat mobilization of the gendarmes” and police (nearly 3,200).

“Criminalization of environmental activists”

Marc Fesneau indicates that these radical elements “come from Switzerland, Italy, Germany or Belgium“. According to the minister, “they are people experienced in the exercises of demonstrations classified rather on the extreme left and who do, indeed, acts of violence“. He sweeps that said the criticism issued by the EELV MEP Yannick Jadot who denounced, Friday on franceinfo, a “criminalization of environmental activists“.

On France Inter this Saturday, Marc Fesneau would like to remind you that the project for these reservoirs dedicated to agricultural irrigation in the Deux-Sèvres was made “sin the field, with local associations, with local farmers, with State services, with scientific services on water issues”. He assures that “the trial was in no way imposed from above“, and therefore judge “exemplary his approach“.
