Who will be able to afford the legendary jersey that Diego Maradona wore when he crucified England at the 1986 World Cup? Two years after the death of the “Pibe de Oro”, the object will be auctioned between April 20 and May 4 by Sotheby’s.
For more than 35 years, this blue jersey bearing the number 10 has had the sole owner of former England midfielder Steve Hodge. Well inspired, he had exchanged his with the “Pibe de Oro” at the end of the match won by the Argentines (2-1) and remained one of the most controversial in the history of the World Cup. He then entrusted it to the national football museum in Manchester where it was exhibited.

Sotheby’s, which will exhibit it at its premises in London during the internet sale (from April 20 to May 4), has set the starting price at 4 million pounds, or more than 4.8 million euros, said to AFP its manager for streetwear and modern collectibles, Brahm Wachter.
