The NHL has fined Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe $25,000 US dollars for “inappropriate conduct towards referees.”
Keefe received a game misconduct and was ejected from the game by the referees with 2:14 remaining in the game which ended 6-2 in favor of the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday night.
The Leafs head coach refused to explain the reasons that led to his spat with the referees when he met with journalists after the game.
Asked where this spat ranked compared to other exchanges he’s had with referees in the past, Keefe responded that he “wouldn’t get into that.”
Keefe was visibly irritated by a tripping penalty given to Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner with 4:53 left in the game and Toronto trailing 4-2 .
The Maple Leafs are scheduled to face the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday night at Scotiabank Arena.
