Former US President Donald Trump, who recently survived two assassination attempts, has claimed that the Islamic Republic of Iran “poses serious threats” against him.

Donald Trump’s campaign team claims to have been informed by US intelligence of threats “concrete” assassination attempt against the Republican candidate, emanating from Iran. “The American official services have not confirmed this kind of information. At the moment, it is easy to talk about Iran as the ugly duckling. We are talking about the wrong period. ‘Bomb Iran’ was the slogan of the 80s. Today things are very different. Iranian attacks can be carried out through cyberattacks. But going to assassinate the President of the United States is nonsense.”says Bernard Hourcade, a geographer specializing in Iran.

“The Iranian government has changed, forced and constrained. A moderately reformist president has been elected. Since he has been in power, students who were arrested have been released. He has surrounded himself with the three people who established the nuclear agreements in 2015. These three people are trying to discuss to renegotiate an agreement in the face of sanctions, because the Islamic Republic is in danger (…) Many Republicans have this hatred” against Iran, says the emeritus director at the CNRS.
