The French electricity network is under tension, and many nuclear reactors are currently shut down. How to explain this problem?
At the beginning of September, the energy crisis is still hitting France. “Currently, of the 56 reactors in the nuclear fleet, 32 are shut down”says the journalist Christelle Méral, on the 19/20 set of France 3, Tuesday September 6. “During the summer, it is usual for the reactors, usually about fifteen, to undergo maintenance. The problem this summer is that 14 additional reactors are not working due to proven problems. , or suspected of corrosion”continues the journalist.
Tuesday, September 6, the deputies Les Républicains asked for a commission of inquiry to determine the political responsibilities. “After the Fukushima disaster (Japan) in 2011, nuclear power was no longer the priority. The boss of EDF has just questioned Presidents Hollande and Macron, accusing them of having favored the closure of the power plants” , explains Christelle Méral. In 2018, Emmanuel Macron wanted to close 14 reactors. Finally, only the two reactors at Fessenheim (Haut-Rhin) were shut down.
