His portrait is displayed on the facade of the Ministry of Justice, which Robert Badinter headed for several years. Many French people gathered there to pay their last respects to the former Minister of Justice. On the condolence book, everyone writes their testimony, or their thanks. “A great man” Or “a humanist with many struggles”we can read. “He was a unique person”, underlines an emotional passerby. The French honored his multiple battles.
A symbol for France
Robert Badinter was a symbol for those who chose justice as a profession. He inspired many lawyers, who came this Saturday, February 10 to express their respect. “I came to tell Badinter that I am proud to be able to call him my dear colleague”says a lawyer. “It’s thanks to him that I am today a student lawyer”, explains a young woman. In front of his home, relatives and anonymous people decorate his door. Many will remember a remarkable man who abolished the death penalty. A national tribute will take place on Wednesday February 14 in Paris, on Place Vendôme.
