A little everywhere in France, Saturday July 8, processions were organized to denounce police violence, while the young Nahel, 17, died at the end of June after the shooting of a police officer. Demonstrators also explain defending “the freedom to demonstrate”.
Several marches in tribute to Nahel and against police violence were organized in France on Saturday July 8. In the morning, in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), more than 500 people took part, walking along the city center. “What happened with Nahel’s murder doesn’t just affect people in the neighborhoods. It affects the working classes everywhere in France and it affects all French people“, declares a protester.
Safeguard “the freedom to demonstrate”
In Saint-Nazaire (Loire-Atlantique), a demonstration bringing together 150 people took place peacefully. “Freedom of demonstration is important to safeguard. There political recovery that has been made [de l’affaire] by the extreme right seems deplorable to us“, argues Jean-Luc Boero, president of the section of the League of Human Rights in Saint-Nazaire. Same atmosphere in Marseille, in the Bouches-du-Rhône, where no overflow took place.
