Wednesday January 17 in the morning, along the A31 motorway in Moselle, many cars left the road due to icy conditions. A repairman hasn’t stopped working since early in the morning. “The interventions, I no longer count them”, indicates Alexandre Bichel, convenience store. Heavy goods vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes were banned from driving. The measure was poorly respected and truck drivers had some surprises.

“I stopped at the roundabout and didn’t leave because it was slippery”, indicates Jérôme Mortier, truck driver. The roads were impassable, despite salting operations since 3 a.m. Motorists are not reassured. “It was a real ice rink,” assures a woman. Other damage was caused by the ice in the department. Part of the A4 motorway was cut in the morning due to a heavy goods vehicle accident.
