Manuel Carvalho Martins Golpe Douro 2019 | Affordable: powerful, yet fresh

I could also have qualified this wine as “classic” or “bargain”. Made with traditional Douro grape varieties (50% touriga nacional, 25% tinta roriz, 25% touriga franca) and aged partly in new barrels, this Manuel Carvalho Martins Golpe Douro 2019 offers all the dark and powerful character of wines from the region. .

The color is intense. The nose opens with notes of warm earth, very ripe black fruits, dried mauve flowers, smoke. But he avoids the pitfall of heavy, overripe or overly woody wines.

The mouth is fleshy, but shows a lot of freshness. The wood is present, with notes of cocoa and mocha, but very well integrated, and it is above all a beautiful fruity substance that stands out.

Very present tannins, fine and firm, shell out on a long finish. Serve with braised or grilled red meats.
