The provincial government says these municipalities include Coldwell, Emerson-Franklin, MacDonald, Norfolk Treherne, Whitemouth and Woodlands.

Several First Nations communities, including that of Peguis some 300 kilometers north of Winnipeg, have also declared local emergencies.

Meanwhile, Highway 75 was closed last night on the south side of Morris due to flooding. The section of the highway on the north side of the city had already been closed on April 29.

The highway connects the Winnipeg metropolitan area to the town of Emerson, located on the border of Manitoba and the state of North Dakota, United States.

Southern and central Manitoba were hit with heavy snowfall over the winter, followed by three spring storms in as many weeks.

As a result, many areas of the province received four to six times the normal amount of precipitation in April, as observed by the provincial government.
