The police chief of the Attikamek community of Manawan, Régis Flamand, was suspended from his duties following a complaint.
“A complaint has indeed been lodged against the director and an investigation is underway,” community leader Sipi Flamand said Wednesday evening.
The elected official did not wish to comment further so as not to harm the ongoing investigation, although he confirms that the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) will act in the interim.
Several media reported that it is Éric Champagne, an agent of the SQ, who will be responsible for training in the coming months an agent of the native police force to replace Régis Flamand.
The latter had more than twenty years of experience in the community’s public security department, for which he had received, last June, the Governor General of Canada’s medal for distinguished service.
