The 2012 Olympic champion in the 50-meter freestyle won the national title on Thursday in Rennes, achieving the best world performance of the year during the playoffs.

After establishing the best world performance of the year in the 50-meter freestyle on Thursday June 15 during the series, in 21″56, Florent Manaudou won the title of French champion of the event in the evening, in Rennes. The resident of the Cercle des nageurs de Marseille did less well in the final (21″62), but still achieved the second best performance in the world behind his time in the morning. He is ahead of Maxime Grousset by sixteen hundredths. Thanks to these times, the two men are qualified in this event for the world championships of Fukuoka, Japan in July.

Florent Manaudou had not swum so fast since the Tokyo Games in 2021. If someone had told me that I would be swimming in these times today, I would have signed up right away. I hadn’t been French champion since 2020, so even if it may seem anecdotal, I’m happy“, he reacted after his race.

Léon Marchand received 5 out of 5

As expected, earlier in the evening, Léon Marchand won his fifth French championship title in five races, winning the 400 meter medley, without forcing, in 4’10″57, and no doubt tired after his competition week. “I’m a little disappointed anyway, I wanted to go below 4’10 but it wasn’t easy after five days of competitionexplained the one who has already won the national title in 200 meters butterfly, 200 meters medley, 200 meters breaststroke and 200 meters freestyle. I don’t think I’m at my best but I managed to qualify for all the races so it’s perfect.”.

Fifth victories in five races for the prodigy Léon Marchand since the start of these French Swimming Championships. It was this time in the 400m medley that he dominated the other swimmers.

Emma Terebo also won the national title and qualified for Worlds in the women’s 200m backstroke. Mélanie Henique, vice-world champion in the 50-meter butterfly, was crowned French champion of the event, in 25″24, the second best world performance of the year, thus winning her eleventh national crown. And finally, in 800 freestyle meters, Anastasiia Kirpichnikova won and also qualified for the world championships.
