The psychiatric examination “concluded an alteration of his discernment”. The man arrested on Wednesday October 18 in Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes) after threatening with a knife the employee of a technical inspection center was the subject of an “immediate hospitalization without consent”announced the Grasse public prosecutor’s office on Thursday.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Wednesday when the victim noticed the presence of a man with a prayer rug on his business premises. “According to his statements, he asked him to leave and the man took out a pocket knife while shouting ‘Allah Akbar’. The victim then retreated into an office to call for help and when she came out, the individual had left”had explained to several media, including France televisions, the public prosecutor of Grasse, Damien Savarzeix.

His police custody, during which he denied the facts, was quickly lifted after the psychiatric examination carried out by the prosecution. The mayor of Cannes, David Lisnard (LR), denounced a “fairly grotesque media and political excitement with many sensational interpretations” around this affair after the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin spoke on X (ex-Twitter) Wednesday evening “a very dangerous man, carrying a knife” having “wanted to attack an individual”.
