(Longueuil) Control of the sale of drugs could be the cause of an armed attack on Saturday in Longueuil, in Montérégie.
A call to 911 on Saturday, around 2:50 a.m., requested police intervention in a building on Rue Louise, where a man was attacked with a knife.
The victim was transported to a hospital for upper body injuries, which were not life-threatening.
Everything indicates that the man in his thirties was targeted and that he knows his attacker. The suspect and the victim are also known to the police for their involvement in the world of drugs.
“The individual was arrested on the roof of the building. The suspect, a man in his twenties, was arrested and will be interviewed by our investigators,” indicated François Boucher, spokesperson for the Longueuil agglomeration police service (SPAL).
The crime scene has been protected. Investigators and forensic identification technicians were also called to the scene.
“The area is known for problems with drug addiction and crack use. We cannot rule out the possibility of the involvement of organized crime. There is currently a dispute at the territorial level over the sale of narcotics,” said the SPAL spokesperson.
This is not the first time that citizens of Rue Louise, in Vieux-Longueuil, have faced acts of violence in the neighborhood. The police had notably increased their presence there after three episodes of gunfire last May.
“Project Soprano was established at the beginning of May to combat gun and drug violence. Various SPAL actions are still in progress […] We want to maintain strong pressure and demonstrate that there is zero tolerance for these actions. »
