Man shot and injured at Atwater station

A 38-year-old man was shot and injured in the Atwater metro station in Westmount, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) said on Sunday evening.

A gunshot put an end to an altercation involving a dozen people in the entrance hall located at the corner of boulevard de Maisonneuve and avenue Atwater around 7 p.m., said agent Raphaël Bergeron, of the SPVM. The kiosk is located just behind Dawson College.

The suspect fled and the victim, injured in the upper body, was transported to a hospital. We don’t fear for our life.

The man first took refuge in a business in the Alexis Nihon Complex while waiting for help. When passing from The Presspolicewomen were still chatting with the employees of the Roasters restaurant-bar, located just opposite the kiosk and surrounded by tape, and it was not possible to speak with them.

Residents and the doorman of a residential tower opposite, across Atwater Avenue, said they had not seen or heard anything out of the ordinary before police arrived.

SPVM investigators will view images from surveillance cameras in the area in order to identify the suspect, said agent Bergeron. The event triggering the altercation was unknown at the time of this writing.

More details will follow.
