Man pleads guilty to making threats against Trudeau and Legault

A man pleaded guilty Monday to making threats against Prime Ministers Justin Trudeau and François Legault in a series of online videos.

Prosecutor Geneviève Crépeau indicated that Germain Lemay, aged 30, had pleaded guilty to five counts at the Sherbrooke courthouse.

Mr. Lemay admitted to having made threats against the two prime ministers in videos published between July and September 2023. He also admitted to having made similar threats against any police officer who came on his property and against an employee of the Standards Commission , equity, health and safety at work (CNESST).

The accused also pleaded guilty to threatening to burn, destroy or damage a CNESST office and to storing firearms inappropriately.

A trial also began Monday for two other charges, namely pointing a firearm at a police officer and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

During a raid on his home in Scotstown, in Estrie, a police officer from the Sûreté du Québec tactical intervention group shot Germain Lemay at dawn on September 27. The Office of Independent Investigations has opened an investigation into this police intervention.
