Man dies after vehicle crashes into Ottawa River

(Gatineau) The man who was rescued Thursday after his vehicle ended up in the waters of the Ottawa River in Gatineau did not survive.


The City of Gatineau Police Service (SPVG) indicated late Friday that the man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The police were dispatched Thursday morning to rue Jacques-Cartier for a vehicle that fell into the river. The Gatineau Fire Department also went to the scene and was able to help the man.

The vehicle was finally recovered on Friday shortly before 11 a.m. with the help of divers from the Sûreté du Québec.

“Following the towing of the vehicle, it is possible to confirm that no other passengers were on board,” mentioned the SPVG in a press release.

The police said they would not provide any details on the identity of the victim “out of respect for the family”.

The investigation continued to establish the causes and circumstances of the event.
