The incident happened shortly before 10 p.m.

During a press conference, Constable Rob Carver alleged on Saturday that a 42-year-old man drove his Jeep into four protesters. The individual then fled to the west of the city.

Police were able to intercept the vehicle about 30 minutes later. The driver was arrested after “briefly resisting”.

Police say three of the injured men were treated at the scene. The fourth had to be taken to hospital, but was discharged.

The man is charged with assault with a weapon and dangerous driving.

Constable Carver indicated that the police did not believe that the accused was participating in the demonstration. The reasons for his action are unknown at this time.

The demonstrators have been gathered in front of the Legislative Assembly since Friday morning, in a sign of solidarity with the protest movement which crosses the whole country.
