Man arrested after police chase in Mont-Laurier

A 26-year-old man, probably under the influence of alcohol, held the police in suspense Sunday in Mont-Laurier, in Lanaudière.

Around 8:45 a.m., police officers from the MRC d’Antoine-Labelle tried to intercept a motorist for a traffic violation while he was driving on Adolphe Chapleau Street.

The latter, however, refused to stop and continued on his way before losing control of his vehicle and going off the road onto rue du Pont.

“He managed to free himself and hit the police vehicle,” said agent Helene Saint-Pierre, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

It was on Route 309, near Ferme-Neuve, that the fugitive was finally arrested by the police after colliding again with the patrol vehicle.

The 26-year-old, from Ascension, was rushed to the police station where he failed a blood alcohol test with results twice the legal limit. He could face charges of dangerous driving, flight, assault with a weapon and driving while impaired by alcohol.

The vehicle was seized and no one was injured during the event, the SQ said.
