Every year in France, 10 million tonnes of food end up in the trash. A phenomenon that two young entrepreneurs have decided to tackle by opening an anti-waste discount supermarket in Maurepas in Yvelines. An economic and ecological approach.

A brand new brand has appeared in the ranks of discount supermarkets. Launched by two entrepreneurs from Versailles and Courbevoie, the prices here are 25 to 50% cheaper than in traditional hypermarkets. Food at a discount for the most part excluded from mass distribution often because of an aesthetic problem. “VYou see these Corsican clementines had to be thrown away because they are very small, but we recovered them to prevent them from ending up in the dumpster »Explains Thibault Godderidge, co-founder of the Malin brand.
Poorly sized fruits and vegetables are found on the shelves for mass distribution, but also products that have been discarded from sale due to poor printing of labels or with a very short use-by date. In total, more than 1,500 products intended for the trash are referenced on the 400 square meters of the store. Consumers who come here are good not only for their wallets but also for the planet. “I am against the spirit of excessive consumption, so I very much appreciate the idea that it is anti-waste “. explains a client.
