This Monday, May 16, Mali decided to leave the regional organization G5 Sahel and denounces an “instrumentalization”. At the risk of increasing the isolation of its capital Bamako.

The announcement is made on public television by a soldier. Mali has decided to withdraw from all G5 Sahel bodies. The organization is formed by Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Niger and Mauritania and until Monday, May 16, Mali. Its objective is to fight against jihadism.

Since their two shotsEtat, the Malians do not want to hand over power. Consequence: several countries of this coalition refuse that Mali chairs the next G5. This case comes as relations between France and Mali are tense. In 2012, France intervened militarily to repel the jihadists present on the territory. Last year, it announced its withdrawal and the end of Operation Barkhane, giving way to Russian mercenaries from the Wagner group. On the international scene, Bamako is increasingly isolated.
