Malcolm X, rap and legend

Brother malcolm in this title of Disiz la Peste, it is Malcolm X, who called himself a “black nationalist” and who died assassinated during a speech in February 1965, a few weeks before he was forty years old. And you heard it this week on France Info, Thursday, November 18, the American justice officially exonerated two men who, at the time, were imprisoned for this murder, and who spent twenty years in prison.

Without knowing yet who the real culprits are, it reminds us of Malcolm X’s aura, and what the trauma of his death is, a bit like Patrice Lumumba, Prime Minister of the independent Congo, assassinated in 1961, that also quotes Disiz La Peste in this title of 2015. And the French rapper, great admirer of Malcolm X, also knows that the character is not done in one piece and that he still asks questions.

In the first episode of These songs that make the news this weekend, you hear excerpts from:

Remember: during the summer of 2019, La Playlist de Françoise Hardy was a journey through the musical baggage of an author, composer and performer considered to be the arbiter of the elegance of pop in France.

In July and August 2017, we spent Un été en Souchon, during which Alain Souchon guided us on a tasty walk through a lifetime of love for song.

All summer 2016, in the company of Vincent Delerm, we wandered around in La Playlist amoureuse de la chanson, truant exploration of popular heritage. You can also extend the delicacies of this summer column with the French song lover dictionary, co-published by Plon and franceinfo.
