Acoustic guitars, two grains of voices that intertwine, drums that set the tempo, simple and effective words accompanied by refined melodieshere is the magic potion of the Malaka duo.

Laurina and Sacha, the two sisters of the Auvergne duo have just released their first EP. May is composed of five songs that celebrate their Creole origins and the beauty of the world. “We were both born in Guadeloupe, but we left there quite early at two and four years old. We try to get closer to these cultures, to learn. In this EP, we tried to mix languages, to add Creole in our set”explains Laurina.

Laurina and Sacha now live in Clermont-Ferrand. After higher studies, they decided to launch into music and created the duo Malaka. A name that evokes their West Indian origins. In Guadeloupe, malaka is a fruit, a water apple with crunchy and thirst-quenching flesh. A perfect combo for the two sisters who are proud of their island of origin.

All the roots of the world

“Should we burn our roots or celebrate them?” questions the duo in Malaka Mai, their latest single. In Lth clip we see them dancing in the forest, embracing a tree and beginning a tribal dance. A powerful cry from the heart, uan ode to nature that resonates at length in the eardrums. “We seek to discover our roots what they are like, where they come from and what they bring us, and also the roots of trees and nature, it’s an element that inspires us a lot”confides Sacha.

However, the two singers do not want to lock themselves into a box: “There are lots of other things around us that inspire us (…) we want to be free to do whatever we want to do, to try whatever we want”concludes Laurina.

After already more than 40 concert dates under his belt, Malaka signed in 2023 with the GreenPiste Record label. The next step that the two sisters will take will take them to Aurillac, for the first part of the Fatoumata Dwiawara concert, on March 9. They will then set off on the festival route with a stopover planned at the Forez Festival (Loire) on August 3, 2024.
