Less than four months after the excellent Goldman trialhere is Cédric Kahn again, decidedly prolific and in great shape, for a new project with many characters which often takes place outdoors, loaded with twists and turns and subplots: Making of, in theaters Wednesday January 10. A project that contrasts with the almost dry closed doors of the previous film.
Simon, played by Denis Podalydès, a somewhat old-fashioned director, is in the middle of filming his new feature film: a strike and a blockade of workers who end up taking over their factory as a cooperative. But there is no longer a penny in the coffers, the real ones, those of the film, the producer disappears and the star throws tantrums. And to make matters worse, Simon’s wife wants to leave him and his own technicians are threatening to strike.
Humor and mise en abyme
Don’t throw any more away: it screams, it runs, it cracks and it swirls, with lots of humor and mise en abyme. Jonathan Cohen does wonders, with a lot of self-deprecation, as a fashionable comedian who prides himself on playing a trade unionist in a “serious” film. And the rest of the cast is there to match, for one of the first good entertainments of 2024.
