It’s farewell time for Daddy Yankee. Already ? At 46, the king of reggaeton has been active for three decades and surely has a comfortable “cushion” to pay for a long retirement, given all the records his success has broken. Despacito. The Puerto Rican will come to say goodbye to the Montrealers on September 10, as part of a tour that will conclude in his hometown of San Juan.

You should never say goodbye. Loreena McKennitt, who put her career on hold in 2019 to devote her energies to the fight against global warming, is already back for a 10-date Canadian tour marking the 30th anniversary of her album The Visit. Quebec accounts for half of these stopovers, with two concerts in Montreal, two in Quebec and one in Sherbrooke.

Here’s one we won’t be hearing about retiring anytime soon. Ringo Starr, 82, shows up at Place Bell in Laval on Sept. 26 with his all-star band (which includes members of Toto, Men at Work and Average White Band, among others). Eyes in the rearview mirror, the drummer will draw from the repertoire of the Beatles and the groups of those who accompany him.

A visit to Laval weighed down by logistical problems in 2018 did not curb The Killers’ desire to find the Quebec public. Brandon Flowers’ band heads to the Bell Center on Sept. 24 with not one, but two albums to promote (its sixth and seventh discs having been released during the pandemic). A safe bet on stage!

With shows that always dazzle, Gorillaz has established itself as one of Montreal’s favorites: the virtual group of Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett is visiting us for the third time in four years, on October 8 at the Bell Centre. His recent performances in major arenas and festivals across the Old Continent have earned him anything but virtual praise.

Måneskin was true to form at the recent MTV Video Music Awards, while the channel’s cameras (although subscribed to scandals) shunned the quartet’s skin unveilings for long seconds. The curious will be able to see his musicians in the flesh – and up close – at the MTelus on November 24, with a fresh record in their pocket… if their outfits have any.

The LASSO festival has not dried up the demand for the arrival of country big names, far from it. One of the ultimate stars of the genre, Chris Stapleton will be at the Bell Center on September 8. A show that was supposed to take place in April, but was postponed due to…you know what. Let’s hope the damn pandemic gives music lovers a break this fall!
