In the United States, the human toll from tropical cyclone Helen increased to 63 deaths on Sunday, September 29. In Mexico, Hurricane Joy caused the deaths of eight people.
Acapulco (Mexico) is under water. Since Monday September 23, the seaside resort, located on the Pacific coast, has been submerged by Hurricane Joy. The damage is considerable and shortages are increasing, with long queues. “It’s been raining for five days and we’re desperate. Supermarkets and grocery stores are closed,” deplores Barbara Encinas, a resident.
The disaster left at least eight dead. In an emergency, nearly 5,000 people had to be evacuated from high-risk areas. Just 11 months ago, the city had already been devastated by Hurricane Otis. “I think everyone who lives in Acapulco and experienced Hurricane Otis feels like they are reliving the same trauma.“, confides Adolfo Ortiz, a resident.
In the United States, the human toll from Hurricane Helen continues to rise, with at least 63 dead. Millions of Americans are today without electricity in ten states.
