Drivers who have mistaken the road network for a race track in the last few days have understood at their expense that excessive speed can have serious consequences, while the Sûreté du Québec has made several arrests during operations for speed.

Between April 5 and 10, five drivers were caught in the act of excessive speeding (GEV) in the Capitale-Nationale and Chaudière-Appalaches territories.
The first arrest came on the night of April 5, when a 19-year-old driver was arrested for traveling 170 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 40 West near from Henri-Bourassa Boulevard. He received a ticket for $1,396 and 14 demerit points.
Later the same day, an 18-year-old driver received the same fine and matched points for also traveling at 170 km/h in a 100 km/h zone, on the North Henry-IV highway, near Avenue Chauveau.
A few days later, on April 7, police issued a $1,471 ticket with 14 demerit points to a 33-year-old driver. He was intercepted while traveling at 178 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 40 East, near the Jacques-Cartier River.
Also on April 7, a 33-year-old driver received a $1,321 ticket and 14 demerit points after being pulled over at a speed of 166 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on the Henry-IV highway, in Sainte-Geneviève.
Two days later, on April 9, a 17-year-old driver received a $959 ticket and 14 demerit points for traveling 166 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on the highway 20 East, in the Lévis area.
Finally, on April 10, a 55-year-old man traveled at a speed of 144 km/h in a 90 km/h zone on the Robert-Bourassa highway. He received a ticket for $817 plus 10 demerit points.
The driving licenses of these five drivers have been suspended for a period of seven days.
According to the Sûreté du Québec, speeding is one of the leading causes of fatal collisions on Québec roads.
