Major power failure at Vannes hospital. The white plan triggered

This Thursday, October 20, the activity of the Bretagne Atlantique hospital center is strongly impacted following a flood on the electrical installations. Several services are affected, including resuscitation. A crisis cell was set up at the prefecture and the white plan was launched.

Around 5:15 p.m., the French Association of Medical Regulation Assistants (Afarm) communicated on its social networks that the Center Hospitalier Bretagne Atlantique (CHBA) is currently undergoing “a major power outage with flooding of electrical installations“.

According to a statement from the hospital, “the situation is currently under control but will deteriorate for several hours. Several services are impacted, mainly the continuous care unit, the technical imaging platform, the operating theaters and the treatment rooms.childbirth“.

Patients received in these sectors are directed to surrounding establishments with prior information from the families as well as to other CHBA units not affected by this incident.,” the statement said.

All department heads are currently in a crisis meeting. Transfers of patients to other hospitals are underway. The mayor of Vannes, David Robo, also reacted to this breakdown on social networks and announced the arrival of a generator.

A generator has just been brought to the scene by the firefighters to supply the services that have emergency needs.

The SAMU 56 is also affected by this failure.


According to a press release, the prefecture of Morbihan has armed its departmental operational center (COD) in Vannes. The prefect must go on site to take stock of the situation.

In its press release, the hospital thanks the population “not to go to the emergency room spontaneously and to call 15 if necessary“.
