Major operation to find a 4-year-old girl who fell into a river in Dolbeau-Mistassini

The search continues to find the 4-year-old girl who fell into the Mistassibi River, in front of her mother, Friday afternoon in Dolbeau-Mistassini in Lac-Saint-Jean.

“The searches did not stop throughout the night, but this morning two teams of walkers from the Sûreté du Québec are on the banks on one side and the other of the river,” explains the spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec. Quebec (SQ) Hughes Beaulieu.

A team of divers also arrived on site this morning in order to contribute to the search.

Due to numerous obstacles, a crane was necessary to put their boat in the water.

The Sûreté du Québec helicopter has been on site since early this morning to fly over the waters.

Facts

The 4-year-old girl and her mother were sliding near the Chute des Pères Motel on Friday when the little one fell into the waters of the Mistassibi River, a tributary of the Mistassini River located lower down, to the south where the current is very strong.

The tragedy occurred around 2:30 p.m. near Panoramique Boulevard. All emergency services were quickly alerted.

A few days before Christmas, this tragedy caused consternation in the small community of Lac-Saint-Jean. Messages of sympathy multiplied on social networks and citizens offered to participate in ground searches.

A command post has been deployed and firefighters are also on the scene to find the little girl.
