(New York) Major League Baseball has indicated that it is unlikely there will be a robot behind the plate during the 2025 season.
Major League Commissioner Rob Manfred said Thursday that very little progress has been made in this area in the minor leagues this year.
Manfred added that if this automated refereeing system is ever adopted, then it would first and foremost be to challenge a decision made on the field.
Manfred spoke after a meeting of major league team owners, and he noted that the cities of Houston, Miami, San Juan and Tokyo have been selected for the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
The commissioner also said that a representative from the equipment manufacturer Nike “took the blame for the glitches associated with the new uniforms and their design.”
