Major hindrances | Congestion to be expected on the roads this weekend

Prepare your trips: several major traffic obstructions are in place in Montreal this weekend and could disrupt traffic. This is particularly the case on ramps leading to Highway 20 West, on Highway 40 West, the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel, and the Ville-Marie highway.

Highway 20 West, until Monday 5 a.m.

  • The Saint-Pierre interchange ramp, which leads from Route 138 (coming from the Honoré-Mercier bridge) to Highway 20 West, is closed again. A similar closure caused huge traffic jams en route to Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau airport last weekend.
  • Highway 20 westbound is also closed in Pointe-Claire, at the Boulevard des Sources exit (exit 53)
  • Note that boulevard Montréal-Toronto will also be closed from Saturday night until Sunday morning heading west, between rue Saint-Jacques and rue des Érables.

Ville-Marie highway (route 136), until Monday 5 a.m.

  • Complete closure eastbound in downtown Montreal, between exit 4 (A-10, Victoria Bridge, Robert‑Bourassa Boulevard, de la Montagne Street) and the entrance from Atateken Street. This closure is scheduled until Monday at 5 a.m.
  • Heading west, the highway is closed between the start of the highway, rue Panet, and the entrance on rue Lucien-L’Allier.
  • On avenue Viger, near rue Saint-Hubert, 2 lanes out of 4 have been closed since Friday and until June 2.

Turcot interchange, until Monday 5 a.m.

  • The ramps leading to Autoroute 15 North (Décarie), Autoroute 20 and Autoroute Ville-Marie to downtown are closed until Monday morning.
  • The ramp leading to Highway 15 South (Décarie) was closed overnight from Friday to Saturday. It has been reopened since 10 a.m. Saturday.

Honoré-Mercier Bridge, until Monday 5 a.m.

  • The Mercier Bridge is closed towards Kahnawake. Traffic is in both directions, one lane per direction. This closure could cause congestion on the approach to the bridge.

Avenue Souligny, until Monday 5 a.m.

  • Souligny Avenue, which provides access to the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel in eastern Montreal, is completely closed eastbound, between Dickson and Honoré-Beaugrand streets.

Beginning of the closure of Highway 40

  • Closure of Autoroute 40 eastbound in western Montreal, between the Morgan Boulevard area in Baie-D’Urfé and the entrance from Saint-Charles Boulevard in Kirkland. Contraflow traffic will be on five lanes, dynamically (three lanes in the direction of rush hour traffic, two in the opposite direction. This work is in place from Saturday morning and is planned until December.

Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel

  • During the night from Friday to Saturday, complete closure of the tunnel and direction north and south. The tunnel reopened at 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

Elsewhere in Quebec

  • Laviolette Bridge in Trois-Rivières : until Sunday 11 a.m., one lane in each direction is closed. Significant congestion is to be expected.
  • Highway 440 in Laval : Saturday and Sunday, during the day and evening, one lane out of three will be closed on Autoroute 440 eastbound in Laval, between exit 19 (R-117, boulevard Chomedey) and the next exit.
