Two daycares on Curé-Poirier Boulevard in Longueuil were evacuated after a gas line was cut during excavation work causing a major fire.

“The explosion occurred during work near a gas conduit,” said Alain Lessard, division head for the City of Longueuil fire department. “We still have a few hours to go.”

Two municipal employees were injured, but their lives are not feared.

Just over 100 children were placed on buses while waiting for their parents to pick them up.

“Daycare centers are in the process of implementing their contingency plan to communicate with parents,” explains Mr. Lessard.

A security perimeter was set up to allow firefighters to fight the blaze and prevent traffic in the area of ​​Curé-Poirier Boulevard at the corner of Cartier Street.
