Major explosion in Saint-Roch-de-l’Achigan | The duty

An explosion ravaged a propane distributor in Saint-Roch-de-l’Achigan in Lanaudière on Thursday. Employees are still missing.

A fire broke out shortly before noon on Rang de la Rivière Nord in Saint-Roch-de-l’Achigan when an explosion of unknown origin for the moment devastated Propane Lafortune’s business.

Forty firefighters are on the scene of the fire to try to extinguish the blaze which is still raging. A search operation is also underway to try to find the missing employees.

A perimeter of one kilometer radius was evacuated around the business because of “risk of explosion still possible due to the number of propane tanks on the premises”, according to the MRC de Montcalm.

A support unit has been set up for citizens in the basement of the Saint-Roch-de-l’Achigan church.

More details will follow.
