Less than twelve hours after his arrest, the imam of Gard, Mahjoub Mahjoubi, was deported to Tunisia. The man had insulted the French flag on social networks.
Imam Mahjoub Mahjoubi was expelled on the evening of Thursday, February 22, towards Tunisia. It is the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, who announced it on social network “The radical imam Mahjoub Mahjoubi has just been expelled from the national territory less of twelve hours after his arrest. This demonstrates that the immigration law, without which such rapid expulsion would not have been possible, makes France stronger. We won’t let anything go.”
In the sights of territorial authorities
Mahjoub Mahjoubi’s apologies were not enough. Accused of insulting the French flag, the imam was arrested Thursday morning and served with an expulsion order. The cleric had been in the sights of the territorial authorities since the fall: “There are several sermons and several comments that he is accused of, which went beyond these ‘satanic’ flags. They were comments against women, against Jews, against the French community”explains Paris MP David Amiel.
