Magic Johnson documentary coming to Apple TV +

(New York) The streaming platform Apple TV + announced Thursday that it will broadcast a documentary on the career and life of legendary American basketball player Earvin “Magic” Johnson, who turned the sports world upside down by announcing his HIV status in 1991, in full glory.

This four-part documentary, whose release date has not been specified, will retrace the life of the champion “from his humble beginnings in Lansing, Michigan, to his 5 NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers” , how “he changed the talk about HIV” and how “he became a successful activist and entrepreneur,” Apple TV + reported.

The project was first announced as a documentary film in June 2020 on the American site Variety, a few weeks after the audience hit on ESPN and Netflix by The Last Dance, the documentary series on the epic Chicago Bulls of Michael Jordan in the 90s.

Like F1: Drive to survive (Netflix), sports series or documentaries have become essential on streaming platforms.

Basketball genius who revolutionized the post of leader, Magic Johnson turned the world of sport, and beyond, by announcing his HIV-positive status in 1991, when he was in full glory with the Lakers.

He then used his notoriety to convince as many people as possible to protect themselves against the risks of HIV infection.
