(Madrid) Canadians Félix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov posted a straight-set 6-4, 6-2 victory over Lloyd Glasspool and Harri Heliovaara in the second round of the men’s doubles match at the Madrid Tennis Open on Sunday.
Suddenly, Auger-Aliassime and Shapovalov qualified for the quarter-finals, where they will face the tandem formed by Marcelo Arevalo and Jean-Julien Roger.
The two Canadians had six aces, committed two double faults and won 82% of the points after lodging their first serve in play.
They also had three service breaks in four attempts.
On the women’s side, Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski and her Brazilian partner Luisa Stefani defeated Russia’s Arika Andreeva and Mirra Andreeva 6-3, 7-5 in another second-round duel on Sunday.
Dabrowski and Stefani had three aces, won 73.2% of the points after putting their first serve in play and had three service breaks in eight opportunities.
