Madison Bumgarner released by Arizona Diamondbacks

(Phoenix) Madison Bumgarner was released by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

A four-star squad member, the left-handed veteran was designated for assignment on April 20, giving the team seven days to trade or waive him.

The 2014 World Series MVP, Bumgarner went unclaimed.

He can join any team for a prorated sum of the minimum wage in major league baseball, $720,000.

The 33-year-old Bumgarner has allowed at least five runs in three of his four starts this season. He went 1-3 with a 10.26 GAA.

Bumgarner fell short of D’Backs expectations after signing a five-year, US$85 million deal in 2020.

A playoff hero with the San Francisco Giants, he went 15-32 and 5.23 average in four seasons with Arizona.

Bumgarner was one of major league baseball’s top pitchers for 11 seasons with the Giants, helping them win three World Series titles.

He was a workaholic in those days, pitching over 200 innings on five occasions.
