Soon the end of the story? The parents of Madeleine McCann, known as Maddie, are no doubt desperately waiting to find out what happened to their little girl, who disappeared in Portugal while on vacation with the family. A man is now the center of attention. An indictment was even pronounced.
On Wednesday April 20, 2022, a suspect linked to this case was indicted in Germany at the request of the Portuguese justice, as part of the investigation into the disappearance of the British girl Madeleine McCann, announced Thursday evening the parquet floor of Portimao. The public prosecutor has not confirmed the identity of the suspect but everything suggests that it is Christian Brueckner. Indeed, the German authorities have claimed since 2020 to have evidence of the murder of little Maddie, identifying this man, a German repeat pedophile, as the main suspect. This man is currently serving a prison sentence for the rape of a 72-year-old American woman in 2005 in southern Portugal. Previously, he had already been incarcerated in a prison in Kiel, Germany, this time in a drug case.
The prosecutor in charge of this file, Hans Christian Wolters, had entrusted almost two years ago to Braunschweig Zeitung that it was not certain that the suspect could be indicted. “The investigation may not lead to a charge for the murder of Madeleine McCann. Everything could go down the drain if we fail to find the missing evidence“, he said. It seems finally done! After fourteen months of controversial investigations, marked in particular by the indictment of parents Gerry and Kate McCann, before they were cleared, the Portuguese police have closed the case in 2008 before reopening the case five years later.”The file had been reopened after the appearance of new elements“, explained to AFP a spokesperson for the public prosecutor’s office, specifying that since the investigation was continuing “with the cooperation of the English and German authorities“.
As a reminder, Madeleine McCann disappeared on May 3, 2007 shortly before her fourth birthday in Praia da Luz, a seaside resort in southern Portugal, where she was on vacation with her parents and a group of friends. The body of the girl, who was allegedly raped and killed, has not been found.
