Madagascar: growing insecurity worries tourism stakeholders

On Tuesday September 6, 2022, a tourist guide from Bemahara National Park was seriously injured, following a dahalo attack. The man, hit in the spine is paralyzed. Professionals are worried about the explosion of insecurity at a time when the government wants to relaunch long-haul flights.

A tour guide was seriously injured in an attack by dahaloStart of the week. The man who works in the Bemaraha National Park has been accompanying tourists to the heart of the Tsingy for years. He is alive, but is paralyzed after being shot in the spine as he was traveling towards Morondava. He was transported in critical condition to Antananarivo, L’Express de Madagascar tells us.

The National Federation of Girl Guides (FNG) denounces this tragic attack on his Facebook page. An incident condemned by the Madagascar Tourism Confederation (CTM) who is worried about the sector, if the insecurity is not stopped.

the CTMin its press release to the government, underlines: Insecurity is one of the most important factors hindering the development of the tourism sector in Madagascar. It undermines economic recovery projects. However, tourism has just gone through a very difficult period, as it has been one of the sectors hardest hit by the impact of Covid-19, with 84% of its professionals unemployed and a loss of 800 million ofeuro”.
