Lyon will soon be the setting for a new Spanish series, Los Anos Nuevos (the new years), an entire episode of which is filmed between Rhône and Saône. The place inspired part of the love story directed by director Rodrigo Sorogoyen, awarded the César for best foreign film this year for As Bestas.
If Madrid is the main setting of the series, an entire episode will take place in Lyon. “Rodrigo already knew Lyon and preferred it to Paris, so he set the scenario here, taking inspiration from the city and integrating its emblematic places, notably the traboules”, says Nacho Lavilla, producer. The city’s architecture has often inspired international cinema, and it’s not Rodrigo Sorogoyen who would say the opposite: “The streets, the bridges, the lights: the city is a very cinematic inspiration”. Viewers will be able to discover Lyon in all its authenticity, during broadcasts planned for the end of next year.
From thriller to romance
Far from the style of his successful films, Rodrigo Sorogoyen embarks on a love story divided into ten episodes: “It doesn’t look like the usual thrillers or thrillers that I do, I wanted to change a little, to experiment with other genres and scenarios”, he explains.
The series follows the evolution of a couple formed by Oscar (Francesco Carril) and Ana (Iria Del Rio). The pitch starts before their meeting. Everything opposes them: Ana, who lives in a shared apartment, is not very sociable and hates her work. Oscar, a doctor, has loyal friends and a life that is quite successful for him. As they both celebrate their 30th birthday, they meet on New Year’s Eve and fall in love. From argument to reconciliation, the couple’s life settles down and their romance will be told through every New Year’s Eve for ten years. What will this crucial decade hold in store which marks the transition from carefreeness to the age of maturity?
