Lyon snatch a point from Strasbourg and tread water

The Alsatians missed a great opportunity to pick up the podium on Sunday, against Lyon stuck in the middle of the table.

There is nothing to exult even if OL limited the breakage on the lawn of Strasbourg (1-1), Sunday April 10. Karl Toko Ekambi allowed the Lyonnais to bring back a point from this trip to Alsace. But this draw will not satisfy anyone in the Rhône, as it keeps Les Gones in an anonymous position, in 10th place. With 46 points, Lyon is four lengths behind sixth place.

But OL’s chronic irregularity leaves little room for hope. As if that weren’t enough, goalkeeper Anthony Lopes left with an injury in the first act. An absence of the doorman could prove detrimental for Lyonnais still in contention in the Europa League – they will receive West Ham on Thursday, in the quarter-finals return.

On arrival, the regrets are especially Strasbourg. Racing had the game in hand after Ibrahima Sissoko’s opener (20th). A victory would have brought Julien Stéphan’s players closer to the podium but they still continue with a ninth game in a row without a loss. This draw allows them, of course, to secure their fourth place, but the Alsatians are now four points behind the qualifying seats for the Champions League.
