Lyon resumes its march forward, Monaco relapses

Spectacle, goals and red cards. The first half of the 5th day of Ligue 1 proved rich in spectacle. Nineteen goals were scored and four red cards were handed out in the five games played at 7 p.m. Wednesday August 31. At the final whistle, Lyon, Reims, Troyes and Montpellier were smiling. Catchy at the Parc des Princes last Sunday (1-1), Monaco, on the other hand, looks gray, after having regained the taste of defeat at home.

On the Rhône side, all is well for Olympique Lyonnais. With ten points in four games played – before playing their match late next week in Lorient – the Lyonnais cling to the front runners with Lens, OM and PSG. For this, they disposed of AJ Auxerre (2-1). Thanks to a goal from Tetê (29th) then another from Toko Ekambi (72nd), OL did not shake despite the reduction in the Auxerroise score, signed Mathias Autret (80th).

For Monaco, another declared candidate for the podium, the evening was much less sweet. In the heat of the Principality, the ASM players hit rock bottom against Troyes (2-4). They were leading 1-0 thanks to a goal from Guillermo Maripan from a corner (10th), but the Monegasque defender was then sent off, which completely changed the course of the game. Philippe Clement’s players left with four goals in their bag, when the Trojans offered themselves a prestigious success which allowed them to take a three-step lead over the red zone, and one over the rival Reims.

But the people of Champagne have nothing to do with it. For the first time this season, they won the victory in Angers. They were however reduced to ten – as often – after the expulsion of Jens Cadjus, warned twice in less than a minute per hour of play. Back to 2-2, the SCO thought they had done the hardest part, but Folarin Balogun’s penalty then the 4-2 goal, signed Alexis Flips, sealed a deserved victory for Stade de Reims.

In the other matches at the start of the evening, Strasbourg and Nantes logically separated with a draw (1-1), while Montpellier dominated AC Ajaccio without trembling (2-0), even if the two teams finished to ten. With one point, the Corsicans are the only last in Ligue 1 after five days.
