Olympique Lyonnais is starting its European campaign with a bang. Sonia Bompastor’s players were merciless for Slavia Prague on their lawn (0-9), Tuesday November 14, during the first day of the Champions League group stage. Sara Däbritz, Daniëlle Van de Donk, Vanessa Gilles (double), Eugénie Le Sommer, Kadidiatou Diani, Wendie Renard, Ada Hegerberg and Amel Majri gave OL victory.
In search of a ninth title, a year and a half after the last (against Barcelona in 2022), the Lyonnaises did not do well for their first C1 match this season. They dominated the entire match, leaving very little of the ball to the opponent (70% possession), leading to a real attack-defense, with 27 shots (including 15 on target) to 6.
This success is the largest in the history of the C1 during a group stage, tied with Barcelona’s victory against Benfica in 2022/2023 (9-0). It continues the perfect start to the season for the Fenottes, still undefeated. They thus have a ninth victory in as many matches in all competitions, with 33 goals scored and only two conceded. OL will face Dijon on Friday November 17 at home in D1 Arkéma, before hosting the Austrian club Sankt Pölten on the second day of C1, Wednesday November 22.
The two other French clubs in the running will begin their European campaign on Wednesday November 15. Paris FC, which qualified after defeating Arsenal and Wolfsburg, hosts BK Häcken (6:45 p.m.), while Paris Saint-Germain travels to Ajax Amsterdam (9 p.m.).
