Lyon and Laurent Blanc fall in Rennes, Nantes revives, Toulouse confirms … What to remember from Sunday’s matches

After the victories of Lille and Lens to launch the debates, the 11th day of Ligue 1 continued, Sunday October 16, on French lawns. Lyon and their new coach Laurent Blanc lost on the lawn of Rennes (3-2), while Nantes offered a stunning victory against Brest (4-1). Toulouse also won against Angers (3-2).

Lyon beaten in Rennes for the premiere of Laurent Blanc

The Laurent Blanc effect will be long overdue. For his first on the Lyon bench, the French technician and his players were beaten on the lawn of Roazhon Park (3-2). The Lyonnais had however ideally launched by taking the lead thanks to Alexandre Lacazette (23rd). But they were punished, as a symbol, by two Rennes from their training, Martin Terrier, author of a double, and Amine Gouiri.

Les Gones also deplore the injury of Corentin Tolisso, hit behind the thigh, just before half-time. In lack of success, they chained a sixth match without success. Rennes temporarily rises to 5th place, pending the result of Monaco against Clermont.

Nantes overthrows Brest

The Canaries raise their heads. Dominated in the derby against Rennes, dryly beaten by Friborg in the Europa League, Nantes remobilized to win against Brest (2-1). The afternoon had however started badly for the Nantes, led to the score after the missed penalty of Ludovic Blas. But they managed to turn the tide in two minutes, thanks to a new penalty, this time shot by Moses Simon (35th), and an opportunistic goal from Ignatius Ganago on the engagement (36th).

Mostapha Mohamed came to seal the success of his team in the second half. With this second victory of the season, Nantes come out of the red zone and climb to 14th place.

Nice stalls against Auxerre

The Niçois failed to confirm. A week after tasting victory against Troyes, the Aiglons failed to get rid of AJ Auxerre at the Allianz Riviera (1-1). Andy Delort had however launched the Gym by opening the scoring on a good cross from Kephren Thuram (20th).

But after his exit through injury, hit in the knee, the Nice fell back, and they ended up being trapped by the equalizer of Nuno da Costa (42nd). For their first outing after the dismissal of Jean-Marc Furlan, the Auxerrois bring back a good point from the Côte d’Azur, and leave the relegation zone.

Toulouse regains victory, Troyes and Ajaccio back to back

The Toulouse cling to the first part of the table. A week after hooking OL, they dominated Angers at the Stadium to sign their fourth success of the season (3-2). Carried by its three Dutch Brecht Dejaegere, Branco van den Boomen and Stijn Spierings, all scorers, the TFC was able to take advantage of the wide spaces left by the worst defense in the championship (27 goals conceded).

In a long dull match, before coming alive in the last minutes, Troyens and Ajacciens failed to decide (1-1). Estac opened the scoring a quarter of an hour before the final whistle, before the Corsicans came back up thanks to Mounaim El Idrissy (88th). They may regret the penalty missed by Riad Nouri just before the break, and remain entangled at the end of the table, in 19th place.
