Lupita Nyong’o will chair the Berlinale jury

(Berlin) Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o will chair the jury of the Berlin International Film Festival in February.

The Berlinale 2024, the first of the major European film festivals of the year, will take place from February 15 to 25. This will be the last edition under the direction of general director Mariëtte Rissenbeek and artistic director Carlo Chatrian.

The directors said in a statement that Nyong’o “embodied everything we love about cinema: the versatility to embrace different projects, to address different audiences, and the consistency to an entirely recognizable idea in his characters, as diverse as they may seem. »

Nyong’o said she was “deeply honored” to chair the international jury and looked forward to “celebrating and recognizing the exceptional work of filmmakers from around the world.”

Lupita Nyong’o, who was born in Mexico to Kenyan parents, has also been a director and producer, in addition to being the author of a children’s book.

She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2014 for 12 Years A Slave.

The organizers generally appoint the rest of the jury shortly before the event. This year, a seven-member jury led by actress Kristen Stewart chose the winners of the competition, awarding the Golden Bear to the documentary On the Adamant by French director Nicolas Philibert.
