In Brazil, part of the country celebrates the return to power of Lula who narrowly won the election against Jair Bolsonaro on Sunday, October 30. At the age of 77, he made a historic return to the head of the country after having experienced prison.

Lula was elected president for the third time on Sunday October 30. A historic return for the one who is acclaimed by millions of supporters in the streets of São Paulo (Brazil). The victory is close. The left-wing candidate won 50.9% of the vote, Jair Bolsonaro, the outgoing president, 49.1%. “It’s a feeling of relief, of joy. We suffered a lot and I went out every day to campaign and try to swing the election“exclaimed a woman in the crowd on Sunday.

Lula thanks the crowd after his victory. “Brazil is my priority, the people are my cause and fighting poverty is the reason why I will live until the end of my days”, he says. Jair Bolsonaro lost with a gap of just two million votes out of 156 million voters, the tightest score in the history of Brazilian democracy. “Lula will not be able to govern. Its programs which include abortion, violence and drugs will not pass the stage of parliament”, explains a supporter of Bolsonaro. For now, Jair Bolsonaro has not yet admitted defeat.
