Luis Miranda denies sexual assault accusations

On the first day of the trial which pits him against a former volunteer of his party, the mayor of Anjou, Luis Miranda, rejected one after the other allegations made by Sandra Boursiquot who accuses him of sexual assault.

Luis Miranda, who testified Monday morning, said he had met Mr.me Boursiquot in 2006 during an open day organized by the Anjou district. He mentioned having had a relationship with her as “consenting partners” for several years.

He indicated that it happened that the woman showed up at his office or joined him for lunch at a restaurant where he was a regular in Anjou. However, he rejected the accusations of rape made by Mme Boursiquot. “I never attacked the lady,” said Luis Miranda.

Remember that Luis Miranda is suing Sandra Boursiquot for defamation who publicly accused him of having sexually assaulted her. He is seeking $75,000 for the damages suffered. In the fall of 2018, Mme Boursiquot appeared at several meetings of the Anjou borough council and the Montreal municipal council to denounce the behavior of the mayor of Anjou. Among his allegations, Mme Boursiquot maintained that the mayor had visited her home on several occasions and that he had used his power as mayor to force her to have sexual relations. She is also demanding $750,000 from him for the damages she says she suffered.

On Monday, Luis Miranda claimed that the only times he showed up at Ms.me Boursiquot, it was at her request to visit the daycare she owned, he explained.

He also rejected allegations that he used his power as mayor to ensure that she received tickets from municipal services. “I have no control over the police, firefighters and the Municipal Court,” he argued before Judge Gregory Moore of the Superior Court.

The elected official indicated that Sandra Boursiquot’s public accusations had undermined his confidence and caused him insomnia. He said he has reduced his public activities and regularly hears comments about the cause, even in Portugal where he occasionally visits. Despite this affair, Luis Miranda obtained the largest majority of votes in the municipal elections of November 2021. “It’s clear that people didn’t believe it. »

In the afternoon, Sandra Boursiquot began her testimony. She recounted growing up and living in Haiti before moving to Quebec in 1998 with her partner. She notably opened a daycare in Anjou. She also sponsored members of her family who settled in Quebec. His testimony continues Tuesday.
