PSG have made their choice. To replace Christophe Galtier, the Parisian management has decided to appoint Luis Enrique, Wednesday July 5. The former Spain coach has signed a contract binding him with the capital club and will have the mission of winning the Champions League, which is still missing from his list.
By attracting the ex-coach of Barça (2014-2018), Paris recruits the man who had inflicted the famous “comeback” on him in the knockout stages of the Champions League in 2017 (6-1 at Camp Nou after the 4 -0 from PSG on the way). Known for his style of play based on confiscating the ball, Luis Enrique made football history by leading the formidable “MSN” in Catalonia (the Messi-Suarez-Neymar trio). With them, he achieved the treble in his first season in 2015, winning the Spanish league, the Spanish Cup and the Champions League, Barça’s latest.
Glory at Barça before the forfeiture in the national team
Enrique had his first lessons with the Catalan club’s B team, just after Pep Guardiola’s promotion to the first team in 2008.ex-midfielder from La Roja (62 caps) threw himself into the deep end when he arrived on the AS Roma bench (2011-2012), before returning to Spain, at Celta Vigo (2013-2014 ). The explosion with FC Barcelona only happened in a second time.
After the 2018 World Cup, completely missed by Spain, it was he who was called to the rescue by La Roja. But after four years in office, in the wake of a failed 2022 World Cup (elimination against Morocco in the round of 16), Luis Enrique left office in December, leaving behind him a mixed record, with a semi-final at the Euro 2020 and a 2021 Nations League final. Often criticized for the lack of sharpness of his team, despite an outrageous possession of the ball, Luis Enrique will undoubtedly have to reinvent himself on the PSG bench.
