“The debt of the City of Paris is not comparable to the debt of the French State, so it is a bit ironic to hear lessons from the people responsible for the debt of the French State”judges Wednesday July 24 on France Inter Lucie Castets, candidate of the New Popular Front for Matignon. While the city’s debt approaches ten billion euros, the 37-year-old senior civil servant has been in charge of finances and purchases for the city of Paris since 2023.

With a level of debt expected for 2026, the end of Anne Hidalgo’s second term, estimated at 9.2 billion euros, according to the majority’s forecasts, Lucie Castets is criticized as director of financial affairs of the capital. But the figurehead of the collective Our Public Services says her “pride” to have made investments which were going “change people’s lives”.

“I am proud to have participated in the financing of very long-term projects which will improve people’s lives, the lives of Parisians, particularly in terms of ecology”she stressed. For the candidate of the left-wing coalition for the post of Prime Minister, “local authorities are in an extremely problematic financial and budgetary situation due to the policies implemented by the outgoing government”.
