“I ask the President of the Republic to take responsibility and appoint me Prime Minister”said Lucie Castets, candidate of the New Popular Front for Matignon, on France Inter on Wednesday July 24, the day after Emmanuel Macron’s interview during which he closed the door to the nomination of the 37-year-old senior civil servant.

She thus denounces a “denial of democracy” from the head of state and judges this “worrying inconsistency”. Lucie Castets highlights the results of the second round of early legislative elections which, according to her, showed a “rejection of the outgoing government’s policy and the demand for a new political direction”. If she therefore judges the “serious moment”the senior official believes that we “cannot postpone this type of decision”. “We cannot remain paralyzed in this way, as Emmanuel Macron is proposing.”she adds.

Lucie Castets’ profile has in any case succeeded in achieving consensus among all the political parties of the New Popular Front after more than two weeks of tense negotiations. She denies belonging to any “of these parties”to be “outside the political world” and believes that this may be one of the reasons for her appointment. She thus presents herself as “a committed left-wing woman”a “committed citizen”.

Lucie Castets describes her profile as “technical”recalling having “held responsibilities in the Ministry of Finance and in the unit for the fight against money laundering and financial crime”. But Lucie Castets also insists on her “sincere and active commitment in the associative environment, in particular in the field of the defense of public services”She is in fact the spokesperson for the collective Our Public Services.

The NFP candidate for Matignon also clarified her priorities if she is appointed Prime Minister, namely: “the repeal of the pension reform”before “giving back control to social partners”. “We will have to put certain issues back on the table, particularly those of hardship at work and small pensions”She also advocates for a “revaluation of salaries as a whole so that we can live properly from our work”.
